Summer retreat though it might be for Mackenzie King, who maintained his residence at Laurier House in Ottawa through the year as well, Moorside became a place where the great and the good would come to stay, or just for a meal, and the prime minister would over time give the place his own sensibility.
A panoramic shot from here.
I love the look of the house. As is the case at Kingswood, yellow prevails in the colours.
Inside, this display case includes items relating to his sentimental side, and forerunners of other items on the grounds here.
Another display case, including a photograph from one of the Quebec conferences during the Second World War. Mackenzie King and the governor general hosted Roosevelt and Churchill.
Much of the space on the first floor that is publicly accessible is open, and in past has been used as a tea room. A note in this space indicates it will be returning to that use in the future.
The books are contemporary, but it was the clock on this shelf that caught my eye.
I always enjoy a good fireplace. This one is a great example.
Another display case to finish the day.
A very, very beautiful place and yes, if someone else takes care I love a fireplace, too.
