The Home For The Prime Minister

Departing from Kingswood, the path led on to the residence Mackenzie King built as his career progressed into national leadership, and a summer getaway consisting of cottages wouldn't be sufficient for entertaining the great and the good. He would make a real home here too, and that was Moorside.

Another quote is along the path.

We come out to a wide meadow that stretches between the house and the woods. Mackenzie King became a gentleman farmer when he was here.

A first glance at Moorside from here.

The path led me to the main drive, and I turned towards Moorside.

A beautiful home, with portions open to the public. Here, the prime minister could entertain guests.

Those guests included Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt, the latter of whom is seen in one of the photographs on this panel.

The meadow is an enchanting sight.

  9. Stone walls! I've actually watched people as they've built them. Not an easy task, if they are done right.
