Crossing Over The Ottawa River

Happy Easter!

On the day in February when I went over to the Museum, I crossed the river on the Alexandria Bridge. I paused for this shot of Parliament Hill. By the way, it looks a lot different now; I was down in the area on Friday, and aside from ice beneath this bridge, the river was open and high.

The walk along the bridge allows for many photographic opportunities of the river. I'll come here again in the summer.

Leaving the Museum, the sun was setting. There were some breaks in the cloud deck to the north. The Museum buildings dominate the Gatineau shore here.

The bridge has lanes for traffic between Gatineau and Ottawa, with a pedestrian section as well.

  3. Brrrr! Flashbacks to winter! Hopefully we won't any more see scenes like this for a few months.

  4. The first shot really makes the building look majestic. It looks to me like a book illustration.

  5. Thank you for these images, as I have already told you a frozen river of this size is something quite alien to our eyes: absolutely fascinating and a bit scary!

  6. You'll have to link back to the winter shots when you return in the summer! Joyeuses Pâques William!

  8. Also gave me the feeling of winter once again and to read that the river is once again flowing was a good thing and looking forward to warmer weather shots from this same vantage point.

    VP: right now with how high it is, that can be a bit scary.

    Ciel: I will do that.

    Revrunner: that is the idea!

    Beatrice: I really must get down to take shots while the water is high.

    Luis: you're welcome.

    Tex: it does fit that description.

  16. Great series of photos, but I have to tell you, I seriously doubt I could live with such winter weather. It's good to hear that the ice is almost completely gone.

  17. Wonderful winter shots, but since winter has long gone overhere, I prefer the shot of the sunset.

  18. That first shot is gorgeous. It almost looks like something from a fairy tale. It will be nice to see how this looks when the snow is gone - very different, I'm certain.

  19. @MB: I'm gleefully waiting for winter to come back!

    @Judy: at the moment, some days are warm, others are still-in-coat weather.

    @Sharon: it was a cold day, as memory serves.

    @RedPat: thanks!

    @Lynette: I love the winter.

    @Jan: there's never a sunset quite like other sunsets.

    @Norma: thank you!

    @Kay: it's quite different now. I'm planning on going down to the river's edge tomorrow for some photography.

    :)
    I hope you'll be showing us the tulip festival soon, that what I want - spring flowers!

  27. @Denise: particularly on a minus 25 celsius day with biting winds.

    @Jennifer: I'm trying to stretch out the snow as long as possible!

    @Hamilton: the tulips are actually a little behind, but there'll be plenty of them in May.

    @Linda: thank you!

    @Whisk: thanks!

    @Mari: snow's not for everyone!

    @Cheryl: and the Prime Minister's probably just as much of a cutthroat as some of the characters on that show.

    @Tess: maybe winter will be back in July.

    1. Well this was a trip earlier in the winter, but for us the buds start to show in late April, but really in May. We still have snow on the ground in shady spots.
