The first of each month is City Daily Photo Theme Day. For the first of July, the theme is Celebrating Summer. You can find other takes on this month's theme by clicking at this link.
Summers here tend to bring out the motorbikes on our roads. This government office parking lot down in Little Italy is one that I've shown you before in the winter, and this time of year, motorbikes can be found on it, including this three wheeled Spyder.
Most of the motorbikes are in the same area on this lot.
The Hello Kitty decal is a nice touch on the one in the foreground below.
The motorbike in that link above is also here, below, being driven in the proper season, still with the sidecar attached.
There was a small paddle attached to the sidecar, with a rather peculiar set of words inscribed on it. It's readable, I assume, if you click on it.
Now then, today is also Canada Day here in Ottawa. I will be downtown through much of the day among a horde of crazy Canucks, so I'll have to play catchup tomorrow. Have a look at my writer's blog for my annual Canada Day post- I have it scheduled to go live at the same time this one does. In the meantime, I'll leave you with a picture fitting for the day. This is taken on the east side of the Rideau Canal, with the War Memorial, Parliament Hill, and Plaza Bridge all before us. Happy Canada Day!
What a cool motorbike and boat. Happy Canada Day, William!
ReplyDeleteGood take on Celebrate Summer. The bikes are out on the good days. Varoom Varoom

DeleteTaking a ride on that canal boat might be a great way to spend the afternoon of Canada Day !
ReplyDeleteGreat post William, love the bikes especially the first and a very nice river scene.
ReplyDeleteWe are back after our month long trip to Europe. We woke up in Oslo yesterday morning and went to sleep in our own beds last night. We all agreed it was a fantastic trip but so good to be back home. This vacation was for all of us but mainly for my 93 year old father-in-law who attended the 70th D-Day Commemoration Ceremonies in Normandy and then traced his roots from four generations ago in Norway. We also visited Devonshire where I lived for many, many years before moving to America. I will be sharing lots of photos and stories in the days ahead, and will try to get some on my blog towards the end of the day. Meanwhile, loving visiting again but still coping with time changes :)
Nice one! What is it with bikes (at the risk of offending bikers)? Happy Canada Day!!
ReplyDeleteYes, summer is the motorcycle season her too. You see a lot of them on the road.
ReplyDeleteWhat could be crazier than a bunch of "crazy Canucks" on motorbikes. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Spyder seems to have been taken from Star Wars! :-)
ReplyDeletethose are some sweet bikes!
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos of the motorcycles. If Mr. GDP sees these, he'll have me on a motorcycle, for sure!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your celebration of Canada Day, William, and we will also celebrate this week with July 4th coming. I was wondering if you also rode a motorbike after viewing these photos.

ReplyDeleteThat first one looks like something that Darth Vader would ride.
ReplyDeleteThat first one...is that Optimus Prime?
ReplyDeleteThat paddle is awesome! I've been riding for decades, and sidecars are a rare and wonderful sight. Congratulations on finding one whose driver has a sense of humour!
ReplyDeleteGreat theme day shot.
ReplyDeleteSydney – City and Suburbs
Very nice photos! I guess you just don't see any motorcycles around there much of the year. The paddle inscription is very funny!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the day!
ReplyDelete(The boat reminded me of Amsterdam.)
A nice collection of bikes. Belated Happy Canada Day! I used to go to see the fireworks every year when I lived there.
ReplyDeleteThe motorcycles have been terribly loud. They've built an electric one, but they've made it noisy, too. Terribly disappointing. Love the photos.
ReplyDelete@Jane and Chris: I had a long day, but a good one.
ReplyDelete@Tex: I see those Spyders around every once in awhile.
@EG: they seem to be everywhere.
@Luis: thank you!
@Tanya: thanks!
@Cheryl: I should take the canal boat sometime.
@Grace: thank you!
@Halcyon: as long as I live here and am able to do so, I love getting downtown in Ottawa for Canada Day.
@Karl: thank you!
ReplyDelete@Judy: it was a nice day, even if we had a control freak trying to turn it into his day (thanks for nothing, Prime Minister)
@Sharon: they're a great way!
@VP: we had an interesting day yesterday weatherwise- mostly humid, with brief downpours. Fortunately I was inside and they were short.
@Krisztina: I never get tired of that canal.
@Country Gal: me too!
@Lauren: that many motorbikes, I can't resist.
@RedPat: every Canadian should come up here once for Canada Day.
@Marleen: a long but productive day!
@Mari: you don't see sidecars often on these things.
ReplyDelete@Jack: yes, it does!
@Norma: not the Michael Bay version!
@Buck: this driver does!
@Jim: thanks!
@Pat: well, we do see them from April well into October.
@Gunn: I've seen pics of Amsterdam with very similar boats.
@Zosia: I love the fireworks.
@Jennifer: thank you!
I would be affraid to ride one of those.
ReplyDeleteIt's been awhile since I've rode.
DeleteThe disclaimer on the paddle is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen or even heard of the Spyder before. I like it! It looks like an adorable little robot. :) Love the chocolate color too.
It's quite a bike!
