City Daily Photo Theme Day: Movement

The first day of each month is a theme day for photographers from around the world at City Daily Photo, and the theme for October is Movement. You can find different interpretations of this theme here.

This is a shot from J.R. Booth's old quarters, within the Laurentian Centre during Doors Open. Here in the entry hall, the woman leaving the house creates just enough of a blur to hint at motion.

I was on the O-Train heading north into Carleton one day when I realized a good opportunity for the theme was presenting itself as we rode the rails. These three shots have the blurring effect of movement as we speed by the trees on either side of the tracks. The pattern of the seat is reflected in the window.

I wonder if this is the way The Flash sees the world.

  2. I like how your Doors Open can be either doors opening or open doors.

    The sense of speed and passage from your train is exciting.

  5. All four shots are a good choice for the theme, I think. The last one is my favourite.

    @VP: quite so!

    @Jan: I like it too.

    @Tanya: it seemed appropriate.

  15. I like the last one best. It is very artistic. I like to "make" pics like that when I walking

  16. @EG: it occurs to me my knee is reflected in the second of those shots; I was wearing tan jeans that day.

    @Tex: it's usually a smooth ride.

    @Luis: thanks!

    @Halcyon: thank you!

    @Judy: down that stretch it moves pretty quickly, but the station stop isn't that far away.

    @Linda: my dad plays the accordion. I've heard enough accordion music to last a thousand lifetimes.

    @Sharon: it felt like the right kind of play on the theme. From the posts I've seen thus far, other people had some ideas that ran along the same lines.

    @Lois: this train is the first phase of a larger system of light rail. The construction for the next phase is well underway.

    @Norma: thank you!

    @Spiderama: that one worked the best for me personally.

    @Peter: indeed!

    @RedPat: oddly I can travel on a train and be fine reading, but if I try reading in a car, I can get sick.

  18. Well done on the theme, nice shots! Thanks for the comment on the afternoon tea with the queen. Well spotted with the woman and the backpack. Of course she was with many of us tourists and not invited :)

    @Whisk: thank you!

    @Mari: that's been a common thing going on with this theme.

  26. William, there is nothing quite like travel by train, and your photos have captured that sense of the scenery flying by. The mesmerizing motion is often sleep-inducing!
