Red, Green, And A Dash Of White

"Santa Claus has the right idea: visit people only once a year." ~ Victor Borge

"The two most joyous times of the year are Christmas morning and the end of school." ~ Alice Cooper

"The main reason Santa is so jolly is he knows where all the bad girls live." ~ George Carlin

"The ideal Christmas wish would be for Justin Bieber to develop a crippling and permanent case of laryngitis. If we can't get that, I'll settle for reading the obituary of my idiot former brother-in-law." ~ William Kendall

I shall be cornering the world market on coal in my stocking as usual, but this Christmas Eve I've gone with two shots from Parliament Hill. I have not had the chance to photograph the lights up there this year, but they are beautiful.

I have my annual Christmas Eve post scheduled to publish at the same time as this one over at my writer's blog, a blend of twisted mayhem and nonsense that will pretty much cement that fate of coal in my stocking (as if writing Santa's eulogy a few days ago didn't already guarantee it). If you're not around through the holidays, Merry Christmas!

  1. Wow Humbug!

    Bah Stunning!

    ALOHA from Honolulu

  2. Cheerful photos. It never seems much like Christmas here at this time of the year, since Serbs celebrate according to the Orthodox calendar on Jan. 7th. On the other hand, there are New Year's lights up. Christmas here is without all the hype, which is refreshing. Best wishes to you, and I hope, not too much coal.

  3. Beautiful illuminations!
    Have a good Christmas to you and your family.

  4. Your quote is brilliant!

    Happy Christmas Eve William!

  5. I love the snowflakes projected on the building.

  6. Nich Christmas photos, a Merry Christmas to you William.

  7. @Linda: they are.

    @Cloudia: was it that much of a humbug?

    @Revrunner: what can I say, years of being civil to a bigoted jerk have resulted in my looking forward to sending a note to his funeral saying I approve of it.

    @Pat: the difference in the calendars would seem a bit off to me.

    @VP: thank you!

    @Mariusz: thanks!

    @Luis: thank you!

    @Tomas: thanks!

    @Ciel: I figured quotes would be a good start for it. I'll be a bit more serious tomorrow!

    @Sharon: so do I.

    @Marianne: thanks!

  8. Those quotes are great. I've heard Santa is going green this year, so instead of coal you should expect LEDs. No matter. Merry Christmas !

  9. the quotes and your wit made me laugh. blessings, william! let us know where to send bail money! :)

  10. I am laughing, too! And from your comment on one of my blogs, I take it you're not a fan of Christmas music! :) I figured you'd just hit the play button while you worked! Ho, ho, ho!

    Have a nice holiday celebration, William!

  11. A lovely and funny post William! I wish you a very Merry Christmas!

  12. A friend posted photos of the Parliament buildings all lit for Christmas last week. They are beautiful. Merry Christmas!

  13. Whatever the color... it's a very magical time of year. Yes, I BELIEVE in that red-suited fat guy.

  14. Hey, I'm impressed with the last shot! Fortunately Harper has nothing to do with these decorations or we would have a big sign by them saying how wonderful he is. There, I get my lump of coal too.
    Merry Christmas to you.

  15. Some of those quotes are quite hilarious.
    As for the photos, I specially love the second one with those huge ice crystals. I'm longing for some snow and ice, but with max. temperatures about 9 ºC we'll have to wait at least some days.
    Merry Christmas for you and your family, William!

  16. Lotsa color there.

    Merry Christmas to you all and may the New Year bring Peace and Happiness.

  17. Happy Christmas. You didn't sound humbug, to me.

  18. Love the quotes. Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2015!

  19. End of school was even more joyous than Christmas morning for me :-)
    The lights are beautiful! Merry Christmas and have a wonderful holiday!

  20. Your coal is being delivered by train...the entire train, that is!

  21. @Marleen: thanks!

    @Stuart: uh oh! And here coal would have been more valuable!

    @Tex: hah!

    @Lowell: thanks!

    @Denise: thank you!

    @Pamela: and with the politicians all gone home for the holidays, it seems much lighter there. Far less bull being thrown around.

    @Judy: thanks!

    @Birdman: the big man's busy today!

    @Red: if he could get away with taking credit for the sun rising and setting, he would.

    @EG: thank you!

    @Jan: we're getting some rain... how much of a dent it puts in the snow pack will be another matter.

    @MB: thank you.

    @Whisk: I kind of felt that way!

    @Mike: thank you!

    @Tamago: thanks!

    @RedPat: thank you!

    @Jackie: Scrooge was misunderstood!

    @Norma: no doubt!

  29. Nice shots!...and fun quotes, too. Here's to pitching some coal into saccharine from time to time.
    (I wonder if you can fix your former brother in law up with my former sister in law. Sounds like it might be a fitting match.)

  30. Nice shots; wicked quotes! Hope your Christmas was lovely!
