Trickery

Rounding out my series for the Buskers Festival today, we finish with this complicated act. People from the audience were brought in (as is often the case with buskers), while the two performers you see here were juggling knives. They crouched down for the third member of the act to jump over the whole lot while the knives were being thrown. Needless to say, the audience loved it.

  2. I was a bit surprised to see these latest street sessions,
    I thought the canadians were free of them. I thought that was
    an european thing.

    Tomás.

    . But...

  3. I tend to make myself scarce when knives are being thrown. :-)

  4. I absolutely agree with Revrunner!

  5. Yikes! I don't think I would have volunteered for that.

  6. I don't think I'd volunteer, either!!!

  7. Our lives are filled with magic.

  8. I'd be standing somewhere in the back of the audience, I think. Catching al ball is one thing, catching a knife is something very different ...

  9. @Cloudia: these knives, at least, have to be trick knives and not sharp!

    @Tomas: no, they're quite popular here.

    @Revrunner: for good reason!

    @VP: it is sensible.

    @Sharon: these people did!

    @Jennifer: not many did!

    @Birdman: definitely.

    @Jan: oh, yes!

    @Tex: I think so!

  10. Yup, it's the thrill of danger that draws the audience in.. super series of images William.

  11. Trick knives are good. Do the "volunteers" know that? Hmmm. If not, it confirms once again my suspicion an awful lot of people will do just about anything for a few minutes of fame!

  12. i agree with Lowell. i prefer quiet over fame. ( :
    i guess i would really pretty to be famous for years not minutes. ha. ha!!

  13. Your right! They do make good use of the audience...particularly kids.

  14. I think there would be enough people to volunteer, though I'd rather just watch! ;)

  15. I'd manage to get stabbed just by being in the audience....

  16. Wow, that sounds exciting and a bit scary! I prefer not to be one of audiences who are brought in to the show :-) Haha. But the performers must be really skilled and confident to do that!

  17. Oh my. That would be entertaining to see but I don't think I'd be a volunteer! Buskers are very talented though and fun to watch. Have a good week.

  18. @Grace: thanks!

    @Lowell: I can't see how they'd be anything but trick knives, when you're bringing audience members into the trick.

    @Beth: better fame than infamy, though!

    @Red: some kids love to get involved!

    @Marleen: I never get close enough to do more than watch. There's always a thick wall of people.

    @Norma: oh, boy!

    @Ciel: so noted!

    @Tamago: they have to practice a lot.

    @Pamela: thank you!

  19. Wouldn't catch me volunteering to have knives thrown over me. Wonder how much their insurance runs!

  20. So many interesting pictures and information appear with you on the blog.
    I have a lot of different responsibilities. It's a pity that I can not keep track of everything on the fly.

  21. I wouldn't be volunteering to help out either!

  22. Yikes! Incredibly talented but not sure I would volunteer either :)

  23. That takes guts from the audience or else they are plants, but I rather doubt that.

  24. @Cheryl: it could be quite a bit!

    @Mariusz: thank you.

    @RedPat: I wouldn't!

    @Denise: I'd be wary!

    @Mari: I thought of that, but I doubt it too.

  25. Phew! You're not going to find me volunteering for this act! But it does look like a good time was had by all.

  27. So much fun.

    May I ask how much time you spend responding to comments and visiting the websites of others each day? You have amassed quite a following. Impressive in every way!

  29. Throwing knives over my back? I'm outta there.

  30. There's always willing volunteers in any crowd, but I would have not been one of them.

  31. @Randy: the crowds love this.

    @Linda: it takes guts!

    @Kay: these acts are a blast.

    @Mumbaiiteanu: I enjoy photographing buskers.

    @Janis: I tend to use my time efficiently. At present I follow well over three hundred bloggers, but some of those are blogs that are inactive entirely.

    @Jen: true!

    @Jack: hah!

    @Whisk: you don't want to make a mistake.

    @Beatrice: plus there's the possibility that a joke will be made at your expense.
