Fall Colours Splendour At The Arboretum

 A week after my previous visit, I was back at Dow's Lake to take some more fall shots, on a sunnier day.

Moving beyond Commissioners Park, I headed into that portion of the parkland on the west side of the lake that is part of the Arboretum, itself a part of the Experimental Farm. The path winds around a wetland. I took this shot here.

Here we have a look at the wetland, with the higher ground in the Arboretum beyond it. I assume, given its proximity, that the wetland is linked to the lake and the Canal as a whole, but I don't think the water levels get lowered here as they do in the Canal system over the winter.

This shot, on the other side of the path, shows the lake. Note the lower water levels. In the week between my previous visit and this one, the Canal had been lowered for the winter.

This area is well used by dog walkers. Note the one at right. I was headed for the high ground.

This shot is taken from one of the two overlooks up here.

One of the paths back down goes through the trees here. We'll continue this visit tomorrow.

  1. Oh, it thins out, winter is on the way...

  2. Rain, ice, and snow are on the way. :-)

  3. ...we visited our local arboreum this week and still found lots of things to enjoy.

  4. Your header is a wonderful image of Ottawa in the fall.

  5. Pretty views of the trees and lake. Take care, enjoy your day!

  6. You can always rely on a good arboretum for strong autumn colour and this must be one of the best.

  7. It's a great spot! I love the sumac colours. They are the best.

  8. It looks like sumac in the fourth photo. So pretty.

  9. @Iris: another cool morning here.

    @Revrunner: sooner or later.

    @John: it does offer that.

    @Jennifer: I enjoy visits.

    @Marie: I agree.

  11. Nice shots again. More and more leaves are falling, but it's still a colourful world.

  12. Hay que aprovechar ahora la ocasión, antes de que llegue el invierno y todas estas hojas estén tiradas en el suelo.

    Que tengas un gran día.

  13. You have quite a variety of places to visit.

  14. It looks like you are not getting the bright vibrant colours this year either.

  15. The sunshine makes those trees glow.

  16. gorgeous! And soon it will be covered by snow....☃️

  17. The color is better and better -- no place better than an arboretum to see lots of choices!

  18. What gorgeous scenes to admire. Pretty soon it all will be covered in white.

    @Red: me too.

    @Sandi: soon enough.

    @Jeanie: that's true.
