Outlooks And Parkland Along The Canal

This is the second of the two outlooks from the high ground in the Arboretum. The campus for Carleton University can be seen in the distance, on the opposite side of the Rideau Canal from here. An inlet stream that feeds into the Canal can be seen closer to us. This slope will be quite popular for winter sledding in a couple of months. I have long since lost count of how many times I've walked through this area.

I decided to walk for a bit up here. The Arboretum is filled with a mix of trees, most of them labeled with signage as to the type, some planted as memorials.

Coming back to where I had come up to the higher ground, I photographed this view, including the lake. Down there at right is a black speck: probably the same squirrel I'd photographed coming up and mentioned in a post on the theme day.

One last shot to round out the day.

  2. Arboreta are great places for tree study obviously. When I took classes they used to cover the identifying signs, but if you visited ahead of time you could always memorize a few names!
