It is a truth universally acknowledged that a Canadian lunatic who loves the winter must be in want of snow and ice. ~ Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice And Frostbite
Here in Ottawa the temperatures dip well below freezing for much of the winter. These two shots were taken in the morning after a cold night in December. This is very close to home... since these are the north side windows in my bedroom. I love the vastly different patterns frost creates on glass.
Nice. I was thinking of getting some frosty shots of the windows at work, but I haven't been to work yet, so...
ReplyDeleteI do prefer our frost-free windows, but the frost is also pretty.
I can't even remember the last time I had ice on my windows, I'm not even sure I ever had some... I would love it.
ReplyDeleteVERY NICE shots. Is the ice on the inside or the outside, though?
ReplyDeleteLike abstract stained glass windows. What beauties.
ReplyDeleteMust be a lack of humidity or something. We've been in single digits now for a couple of days but there's no frost to be seen, just crystal clear, bone chilling, cold air.
ReplyDelete@Hamilton: the wonderful thing is that frost is never the same way twice.
ReplyDelete@Ciel: as a child, I remember windows in our house that would frost over easily.
@Mike: the outside set of windows. There's an inner set of windows as well that don't frost over. If I should open those windows, however, the heat of the room will make short work of the frost.
@Stuart: it does have that effect.
@Revrunner: there must be other factors. We get them here with general lower levels of humidity, but perhaps house construction, altitude, general weather patterns in a different part of the continent...
I would love to see those beautiful patterns, we've been below freezing too, but nothing as picturesque as this! Stay warm! And Happy 2014, hope it's off to a great start!
ReplyDeleteJane said: Frost, ice and snow is beautiful to see on any thing. I love the ice crystals that form on eyelashes while hiking/snoeshoeing for several hours in tempatures around -35 degree C.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid growing up in Illinois, I remember exactly this same thing on the windows of my bedroom. I used to love looking at the patterns made the frost too.
ReplyDeleteIt's gotten really cold here of late, but it's been eons since I've seen frost patterns. I love the beautiful tracery that's been made, a frozen hint of the trees beyond?
ReplyDeleteYikes! Pretty, but I still wouldn't want ice on my windows!
ReplyDeleteBrrr! Beautiful but cold!
ReplyDeleteThese are very beautiful !
ReplyDeleteI remember such scenes when I was young...
Nice. The frost and snow now coming to Norway. Warm greetings.
ReplyDeleteThis is something I have never seen in person. Beautiful... but scary at the same time.
ReplyDeleteIt's always so magical to see! You forget how cold it is. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou along with Norma have been on my mind with all this very cold weather.
ReplyDeleteI know you are use to it but Norma is not !
Is this weather pretty typical for you at this time of the year ?
Love love love the frosted window very beautiful.
cheers, parsnip
Neat pictures! And about that quote… do you relate to the lunatic Canadian?
ReplyDeleteToo bad these windows aren't in the east or west--the setting sun would have made a prism worthy of a church window. Used to have such in my bedroom back home. No heat in my bedroom!
ReplyDeleteAnd we start the day again minus something here in northern Ill. for something like day 6! How do you stand it? Our laundry can't be done because our pipes are frozen. Running out of clothes--

So beautiful! Reminds me how much I really don't miss residing in the frosty north anymore though.
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom window----BRRRRR!!! that's about it for me. MB
ReplyDelete@LondonLulu: I'm lucky to live here where we can count on days like that.
ReplyDelete@Jane: those are good too!
@Sharon: I remember them well in my childhood home.
@Speedway: I wonder if that can have an influence, the presence of trees, on the pattern in the glass.
@Norma: it's lovely to see!
@Cheryl: cold is good for you!
@Karl: thank you!
@Inna: thank you!
ReplyDelete@JM: well, seen from inside it's just beautiful!
@RedPat: easy to forget that, yes.
@Parsnip: yes, it's very typical.
@Linda: I am the lunatic Canadian!
@Lorelei: be patient thawing out the pipes!
@Victoria: I love it up here!
@MB: is it wrong to say I love this season?
