Jack Frost

Here in Ottawa the temperatures dip well below freezing for much of the winter. These two shots were taken in the morning after a cold night in December. This is very close to home... since these are the north side windows in my bedroom. I love the vastly different patterns frost creates on glass.
Nice. I was thinking of getting some frosty shots of the windows at work, but I haven't been to work yet, so... I do prefer our frost-free windows, but the frost is also pretty.
Must be a lack of humidity or something. We've been in single digits now for a couple of days but there's no frost to be seen, just crystal clear, bone chilling, cold air.
@Hamilton: the wonderful thing is that frost is never the same way twice.
@Ciel: as a child, I remember windows in our house that would frost over easily.
@Mike: the outside set of windows. There's an inner set of windows as well that don't frost over. If I should open those windows, however, the heat of the room will make short work of the frost.
@Stuart: it does have that effect.
@Revrunner: there must be other factors. We get them here with general lower levels of humidity, but perhaps house construction, altitude, general weather patterns in a different part of the continent...
I would love to see those beautiful patterns, we've been below freezing too, but nothing as picturesque as this! Stay warm! And Happy 2014, hope it's off to a great start!

When I was a kid growing up in Illinois, I remember exactly this same thing on the windows of my bedroom. I used to love looking at the patterns made the frost too.
It's gotten really cold here of late, but it's been eons since I've seen frost patterns. I love the beautiful tracery that's been made, a frozen hint of the trees beyond?
You along with Norma have been on my mind with all this very cold weather. I know you are use to it but Norma is not ! Is this weather pretty typical for you at this time of the year ?
Too bad these windows aren't in the east or west--the setting sun would have made a prism worthy of a church window. Used to have such in my bedroom back home. No heat in my bedroom! And we start the day again minus something here in northern Ill. for something like day 6! How do you stand it? Our laundry can't be done because our pipes are frozen. Running out of clothes-- signed "Desperate"

I can't even remember the last time I had ice on my windows, I'm not even sure I ever had some... I would love it.
