The first day of each month among City Daily Photo bloggers has a common theme. For the first of January and the dawn of a new year, the theme is to look back on the year that was and select a personal favourite or best of the year. You can find other bloggers selecting their personal favourites right here.
This image seemed to draw a lot of attention when I posted it. The railway tracks pass beneath a bridge near South Keys, while late afternoon sunlight highlights the snow. The central track disappears at the horizon, while the two side spurs veer off to the left and right.
I didn't mention it when I posted this, but the line you see crossing the central track is the line for the commuter O-Train. At present, its southern terminus is not far to the left of this location, but the system is undergoing dramatic expansion at present, with construction underway to add to the light rail network in the city.
Wonderful !
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot to think about when you look at this photo.
Happy New Year !

ReplyDeleteBeautiful choice for the photo of the year. I remember seeing this one and being awed by the three tracks so perfectly shaped. Now, I'm even more awed at the track that crosses.
ReplyDeleteThe photo IS quite striking, probably because of its perfect symmetry - great choice for your selection!

ReplyDeleteLooking down on railroad tracks is a fascinating pastime! So much to ponder about. At a far outpost, along the middle track, I image one of Alice Munro's female figures standing on the single platform of a rural railway station, waiting to be reunited with the furniture she shipped from to city, to begin a new life, somewhere far out there.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, this is a very beautiful photo.
ReplyDeleteAll the Best for 2014 !
I do soooooo remember this shot! A super choice for a real winning photograph!
ReplyDeleteAbsolute stunner! I love it. I love the symmetry and the lighting. I love the concept of divergence. Just love all of it.

ReplyDelete@Wilf: thank you!

@Cheryl: it was one of those shots of just being in the right place at the right time. Twenty minutes later, the light might not have been right.

@Cindy: it really has!
