City Daily Photo Theme Day: Mirror

The first day of each month is a theme day for members of City Daily Photo, and for March that theme is Mirror. You can see how others are interpreting the theme right here.

For me this was an easy choice. This view is taken from a terrace at the National Arts Centre across the Rideau Canal to the Ottawa Convention Centre. Skaters can be seen down on the Canal below. Winterlude was just getting started when I took these shots early in February, and the Canal had fully opened up the length of its skateway in the city. It's been a short skating season, as the skateway closed just a few days ago.

I started crossing the Mackenzie King Bridge to the other side of the Canal and took this shot. The Convention Centre is otherwise known as the Shaw Centre after the media company that has the branding rights. It replaces the old Congress Centre as a city convention space, and this marvelous modern edifice stands out well. A huge glass wall curves around, with triangles of glass making up nearly all of its facade. Members of CDP might remember a theme day of triangles some years ago; I used this building for it. Inside, four promenade levels look out onto the city, with interior spaces ranging from enough for a meeting of twenty people up to a space the size of an aircraft hanger.

This view, from near the top of the stairs, includes Parliament Hill in the background to left, and the Government Conference Centre and Chateau Laurier at centre.

Down at ground level, I took this shot. I have not been inside the building in more than a year or so.  Hopefully as Covid gradually declines the building should open up again for use.

Triangles and more triangles, and a fairly reflective surface: the National Arts Centre can be seen here.

Here's a disreputable Canadian, complete scoundrel... nothing to like there at all.

I like the way the building gently curves.

This view includes the Mackenzie King Bridge in the background.

That scoundrel again.

One last view, with another passerby walking away, reinforcing the scale of the building.
