The Rideau Canal is very much the heart of Winterlude, and these two views, looking east and west, are from the Bank Street Bridge as seen back in 2017.
Further west, at Dow's Lake one night, I took these two shots.
Here we see the Canal at the Bank Street Bridge, from the ice surface.
Turning around we find the west view.
A view east in the dying light of day from the top of the bridge.
And further along the skateway, I took in this view late one day.
Across the Canal and a short walk up, this view looks towards a school on the far shore.
A big tree splits into three trunks nearly at the ground and nicely frames a skater.
The dying light of day over the Patterson Creek inlet ends things for today.
A wide space to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot with the skater and the tree.
ReplyDeleteGostei de ver estas fotos.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e boa semana.

Great snowy photos and of the skaters.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe skating looks like fun, love the views and photos. Have a great day and happy week ahead.
My daughter moved to Ottawa in 2020 and I don't think she has missed a winter skating on the canal.
ReplyDelete...skating should be coming to an end, replaced by rowing soon.
ReplyDeleteI've been ice skating once in my life - on an indoor skating ring in the desert! Hope all is well with you.
ReplyDeleteIt’s all done for another year as we live in the interlude between winter and real spring, which is not here yet.
ReplyDeleteI assume the skating is over for the year.
ReplyDelete@Italiafinlandia: indeed.
ReplyDelete@Iris: that was the idea.
@Francisco: thanks.
@Nancy: thank you.
@Eileen: many enjoy it.
@David: though I do not skate, I always spend some time on the ice during the season.
ReplyDelete@Tom: some time in May.
@Susie: at this point indoor rinks are all that's still available for skating.
@anvilcloud: that is true.
@RedPat: yes. The canal season ended early in the month, I believe. There's an outdoor rink at Lansdowne that I noticed was still being used on the weekend, but no longer maintained.
I'm always impressed by the number of people out skating on the canal.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have such a fun public skating place. And that fire looks toasty comfortable!
ReplyDeleteLots of room for everyone to enjoy skating.
ReplyDeleteQuite a contrast between your sunny and bright header shot and this post just below! Both beautiful though. I have never even been on ice skates...if I thought I could learn by osmosis without falling down and if we ever saw ice, I'd be tempted to try ... it looks so elegant. (There is an indoor rink in Portland Oregon -- it's in the center of a bit shopping mall that we used to go to pretty often and we always stopped and watched the skaters first. I'm sure it would be even more lovely to watch on a natural surface!)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photography ~ you capture light well ~ and that canal must be great fun to skate on ~
ReplyDeleteWishing you laughter and love in your days,

A beautiful place, it must make winter feel magical.
ReplyDeleteWe are not past the days yet this year the fire doesn’t look appealing!
ReplyDelete@Sharon: people make a lot of use of it.
ReplyDelete@Jeanie: definitely.
@Bill: there is indeed.
@Sallie: my attempts at skating have ended with me falling!
@Carol: a lot of people enjoy doing so.
@Maywyn: very much so.
@Marie: thanks for stopping in.
Like a joyous Bruegel painting! I have sailed on the Rideu as you know
ReplyDeleteWell, motored of course
DeleteBuen deporte, para practicarlo, en las ciudades en que hay nieve.
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos. The fire looks inviting after a day of skating.
ReplyDeleteSo nice. Did you wear your skates?
ReplyDeleteSo many people enjoy skating on the canal!
ReplyDeleteGosh that skating highway looks like it goes forever.
ReplyDeleteNice views and my favorite is the 8th photo, street lights always grab my attention and that one with the winding street is perfect for a Christmas card greeting even!
ReplyDeleteIt must be exhilarating to skate along the canal:)
ReplyDelete@Cloudia: most boaters motor it.
ReplyDelete@Ventana: thank you.
@Gemel: indeed.
@Eve: I can't skate.
@Joanne: yes they do.
@Amy: it's quite an asset.
@Karen: thank you.
@Rosie: definitely.
I like to see the skaters in that wonderful winter weather.
ReplyDeleteMe too.
DeleteAlways looks like a fun event for skaters and walkers too on the canal.
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
