Today I turn to Winterlude 2018, and in the Glebe, snow sculptures were being erected or had already been finished in the days leading up to the event, along Bank Street as it goes through the neighbourhood. This one had an Olympics theme.
Down the street, others were being prepared.
Confederation Park at night: a large sculpture was behind bike racks when I passed through.
The first weekend of the festival the carvers got to work.
Deceptively quiet: this view looking east in the park only features a couple of people. Most visitors were in the sheltered spots watching the carvers do their thing.
The small sculptures had already been made for that first weekend. We'll pick up here tomorrow.
Hope the pandemic will not prevent the next ice festival from being held.
ReplyDeleteA lot of work in the cold...
ReplyDeleteThey are so incredibly talented. I would contently stand to watch the carvers creating their art.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to see the artists at work on these sculptures. They are all beautiful.
Take care, have a happy weekend!
Maybe by next winter we'll be able to do it all again.
ReplyDelete...Ottawa sure knows how to party.
ReplyDelete@Nancy: me too.

@Gemel: I have done so.
@Eileen: thank you.
@David: I hope so.
@Tom: contrary to its reputation.
Beautiful works again.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the people on the ladder prepping it really puts it into scale.
ReplyDeleteIt's good, hard work in the outdoors!
ReplyDeletewow you still have snow!
ReplyDeleteHopefully it will be able to take place next year.

It's so evident you are in the place then holds so much of who you are. Just as Honolulu does for me. It's a privilege to come everyday to Ottawa and visit you my friend!
ReplyDeleteAmazing work these people do!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful winter art!
ReplyDelete@Iris: thanks.
ReplyDelete@Jeanie: it does.
@Jennifer: very hard work.
@Janey: not much now. These shots are from February 2018. And given that I'm closing in on prepping the last posts of this retrospective, it is possible that I may have snowy posts into early May.
@RedPat: I hope so.
@Marie: it should.
@Magiceye: indeed.
@Sami: yes they do.
@Carol: thanks.
@Cloudia: I belong here.
@happyone: definitely.

DeleteI really like the bear (?) in the first photo.
ReplyDeleteThat would have been the mascot of the Winter Olympics that year, which if memory serves would have been a bear.
