A reminder to members of City Daily Photo: the theme for April 1st is Medicine.
I have some odds and ends today from recent weeks. This first one was taken before dawn one morning in February, looking over the stadium at Lansdowne Park.
On a couple of my evening visits to Winterlude, I took time to photograph the surroundings at the War Memorial- in this case, focusing on the Government Conference Centre. Right now, the Senate is meeting in there. At some point I must take a tour. I've been in the building before, but it's been years.
The War Memorial itself is particularly dramatic at night.
On another visit, I had similar conditions.
I attended an Ottawa 67s hockey game at Lansdowne on Family Day in February. Cosplayers were found circulating.
On the first day of March, I took this shot looking west at the last night of the day.
A few days later, I was out around Lebreton Flats, coming back from my usual twice a month photo of the Ottawa River looking from the Portage Bridge. I decided to stop by the Canadian Firefighters Memorial. Names of Canadian firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty are inscribed on the wall, while a large statue of a firefighter oversees the area.
A short walk away, a view of a work in progress. This is the future main branch of the Ottawa Public Library, which should be up and running next year. The building is coming along, and it looks like the roof is being added on at present.
In the foreground of the above shot is this. The Fleet Street Pumping Station dates to 1875 and is still running today. A channel was dug to divert a portion of the Ottawa River through here, and the discharge comes out on this side.
That channel runs through here to rejoin the main body of the river. Kayakers can often be found- there was one down below as I took this shot. Can you see them?
I took this shot on my way out. Things are now moving along, with the library taking shape. When it's done, the main branch, to be called Adisoke, will share some of its space with Library and Archives Canada, a government agency that has its main headquarters nearby.
Lastly, this twilight shot, looking west, taken a few days ago.
Comprehensive post with interesting photos, the library looks like it's going to be huge, lucky residents. I really liked the first photo.

ReplyDeleteIndeed.
DeleteYou have to wonder how much over budget the library will run. It’s a government project, after all. Hooray for libraries, though.
