Gatineau Murals

I mentioned yesterday that I took a walk into Gatineau. This was in the second half of September, and done to get my shots for this month's theme day. I decided to take some more shots on my way to that spot, coming across the river on the Portage Bridge. Near that bridge is a series of official buildings of federal, provincial, and municipal government use. The Portage complex, the provincial courthouse, and Gatineau's City Hall are clustered around each other. There's also a colourful series of murals here of animals gracing the wall as one comes around City Hall to the park behind it.

  10. I love these murals...how artistic depictions of animals are against bare concrete, how the color choices are vivid and even shocking, and how there are frequent juxtapositions of design and character, like the duck with zebra stripes.

  16. They really are some eye-catching murals. I always wonder what the architects of the buildings think about their beautiful, blank concrete being adorned in this way.

  26. These are really great. What struck me was, they are pristine and not covered in bad graffiti. In Toronto, it seems many of the nice murals are vandalized. It's a real shame.
