A bit morbid, perhaps, but seeing coffins of ancient Egypt fascinates me.
Coming out of this area, I paused to photograph another of the video projections accompanying the exhibit, making it feel as if you were looking thousands of years into the past.
Displayed here are stelae, often found in funerary chapels or tombs.
Two more shots to close things out today, but more to come.
Prototype grave markers! That shape
ReplyDeleteIt is difficult not to be fascinated by the rituals of death in Ancient Egypt.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I could still bite my butt.. ex-boyfriend, you say that for a reason, huh... I was too young.
ReplyDeleteFotos muito interessante.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e boa semana.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteCool exhibit, the video production sounds interesting.
Have a happy day and a great new week!
Those stelae are fascinat8ng.
ReplyDeleteI think that more attention was paid to death than to life.
ReplyDeleteInteresting exhibits.
ReplyDelete...death was sure viewed differently!
ReplyDeletethe attention to detail is so interesting on these items. I wonder how long after the death of a royal they were "buried", as everything had to take quite a while to make?
ReplyDeleteFascinating coffins, I would prefer to be laid to rest in one of those than what's on offer today.
ReplyDeleteToo bad that exposition is so far from here.
ReplyDelete@Cloudia: so it appears.
ReplyDelete@fun60: quite true.
@Iris: an odd expression.
@Francisco: thank you.
@Eileen: thanks.
@Marie: they are.
@David: so it seems.
ReplyDelete@Nancy: they were.
@Tom: definitely.
@Gill: i think it was over a month.

ReplyDeleteIt fascinates me too.

Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it morbid. It is how they showed respect for the dead. There are so many practices.
ReplyDeleteCompared to what our Celtic and Anglo Saxon ancestors were up to at the time, their sophistication was so very impressive.
ReplyDeleteI have visited Egypt twice and loved seening all their ancient artifacts and remains. It a fascinating place to go as it is so different from anywhere else on earth.
ReplyDeleteI find the ancient Egyptian era so fascinating!
ReplyDelete@Grace: I enjoyed it.
ReplyDelete@RedPat: that it was.
@Sharon: for good reason.
@Carol: thank you.
@Janey: indeed.
@Jennifer: thanks.
@Anvilcloud: definitely.
@Rosemary: I'd love to see the country.
@Pat: it draws me in.
Fascinated by coffins, you say? ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat I am.
DeleteI am a huge egypt fan. At our Auckland museum there is a mummy in a sarcophogus behind glass, it has always fascinated me.
ReplyDeleteI can see how some people are creeped out.
DeleteI don't think that's morbid at all. And I really love the projections you shared.
ReplyDeleteI did as well.
