Far Away And Thousands Of Years Ago

A bit morbid, perhaps, but seeing coffins of ancient Egypt fascinates me.

Coming out of this area, I paused to photograph another of the video projections accompanying the exhibit, making it feel as if you were looking thousands of years into the past.

Displayed here are stelae, often found in funerary chapels or tombs.

Two more shots to close things out today, but more to come.

  5. I think that more attention was paid to death than to life.

  7. the attention to detail is so interesting on these items. I wonder how long after the death of a royal they were "buried", as everything had to take quite a while to make?

  8. Fascinating coffins, I would prefer to be laid to rest in one of those than what's on offer today.

  14. I don't think it morbid. It is how they showed respect for the dead. There are so many practices.

  15. Compared to what our Celtic and Anglo Saxon ancestors were up to at the time, their sophistication was so very impressive.
