A Bloody Battle

Artifacts of the Normandy campaign: in the foreground are German weapons, with panels detailing each. In the background, a Canadian 25 pounder field gun.

The Battle of Normandy would prove to be a vicious, costly fight, with the Allies pushing hard against the Germans.

Photographs of the campaign are haunting.

Here we see weapons of both sides.

For Canadians, they were facing forces whose commanders included a particularly ruthless, vicious man by the name of Kurt Meyer.

  1. I love the snowy header picture!
Something about the man in the final photo reminds me of Tommy Lee Jones.

  7. When I stood on the beach at Normandy and saw that cliff that had to be scaled while being shot at, I experienced a feeling I'll never forget, along with much gratitude for those brave men.

  11. Oh my that face "pure hate/completely evil! Extremely difficult and deadly warfare. Excellent coverage, hopefully there are many field trips from schools so they can see what the world and everyone faced back then. History is so important.
